To think that this Government are not 100% aware of the pain and suffering caused to millions as a result of their policies is totally naive. The history of the Tory party, in particular, shows they hate working people, those dependent upon welfare, anything that regulates and places moral responsibilities upon business ; and those not within their circle of influence.
Whilst it is true that other parties have also attacked the disabled and benefits system, they have not done so with such enthusiasm and treachery. They and the Lib-Dems are creating a replica of the USA in terms of welfare, social and employment issues. By 2015 we will have seen the transformation of the UK into the UK Of America.
The tories are not the 'nasty' party at all, but clearly the 'Natsy' party, given their systematic attacks on the disabled, trade unions, elderly, infirm and unemployed. Then there is the attack on the political opposition via their aims of reducing the number of MPs and the boundary commission mutilation of constituencies, in order to absorb as many small Labour & Lib-Dem constituencies into larger Tory constituencies.
ALL were amongst the first actions of Hitler!
But the very first act of this evil dictator was to control the media and arts. That included news media, cinematography, radio, and newspapers. In effect he ensured blanket control of the sources of news for the German people, ensuring no atrocities were reported, political opposition was hardly reported, and when it was it was edited and manipulated to ensure it looked uninformed, inaccurate, treasonous, and of no consequence to the political aims & campaigns of the Fuehrer or the needs of the German people.
To such an extent his control of the media, in all its forms, including art, was 100% guaranteed, and all because of the sinister genius of one man - Dr Joseph Goebbels.
Given the current behaviour of British news media from the last election in 2010 onwards, it seems to me that, along with similar policies, the so-called 'nasty' party in control of the coalition government; has not forgotten the history and lessons from one of the most successful politicians this century in stealing political control and keeping hold of it. The greatest impact is gained from controlling the media.
The exercise in media control as undertaken by Hitler, and superbly implemented by Dr Goebbels; to ensure minimum impact of any opposition and maximum promotion of Nazi policies, has indeed not been lost upon the leaders of the 'nasty party'!
This included of course lies, and distortions of facts, and total abdication of any concern for the people affected by political ends.
Now, just who does that sound like, today? Reminder?
Chris Grayling on Health & Safety legislation who ignored representatives of the families of those killed at work with their employer’s impunity, Families Against Corporate Killers, but goes ahead implementing the 50% destruction of health & safety laws which protect those at work, and removes all moral responsibility of employers to the wellbeing and safety of their workers. All the while distorting official figures and ignoring the true picture of deaths at work as a result of employers disregard for health & safety law.
Chris Grayling with regard to the Welfare Benefits Reforms and effects upon the disabled, who has totally misled parliament by distorting and falsely representing the views of the disabled themselves. He claims support from disabled groups for his reforms, and yet as the recently published Spartacus Report shows, there is none for whole areas of his reforms.
But Cameron's Dr Goebbels was surely Coulson, who before he was outed and resigned, showed he had many talents & methods in the science of deception, information gathering, slurring of opponents; and the production of lies, more lies and damn lies!
But getting back to the control of the media:
My preoccupation with concerns over media control and manipulation is often questioned and dismissed as paranoia, and by people telling me that it doesn't matter; the truth of the issues will convince people.
To this I respond that without news media in all its forms reporting what is going on in politics and the effects this has on millions of individual lives, the 'truth of the issues' will never be known. Until and except of course, the individual feels the detrimental effects of political decisions. That breeds a society of people who both remain ignorant of the pain of others and self centred in that they only care when it affects themselves.
The 1980s taught us that when the media remained bias toward Thatcher's government and hid the abuse of power by her, her government, the police and the judiciary, the public remained docile. Her attacks on trade unions and on industry such as the miners and ship building was supported by distorted and often untrue news reports, sanitising the human misery she caused. Her attacks on education and industry resulted in suicides within the academic world, and in many communities, bereft of hope and a future.
But perhaps the true evil of media manipulation and control can be exemplified, once again, by Hitler's media machine which sanitised the expulsion of Jews from Germany and the mass genocide of Jews throughout Europe.
Through state sponsored media control by Hitler's 'natsy' party and administered by Dr Goebbels, a whole nation was for the most part kept ignorant of atrocities and annihilation of a whole race.
Misinformation in the form of weekly propaganda news reels in cinemas all over Germany showed troops in action and the befriending of the people in the countries they over ran. News reel reports form Theresienstadt showing whole communities of Jews enjoying opera, music, plays and family fun, and even images of Jewish communities in the ghettos, working happily and with food in plenty.
Media reports which were incomplete and in utter contrast to what was really going on!
Such is the power of the control over media by governments to keep a whole nation totally unaware of the horrors that political policies are visiting upon sections within their society.
Not just Germany, not just history, but going on now in Syria, in Saudi Arabia, and continues in Iran,Palestine, Israel and USA..
But back to the UK and the tory manipulation and control of our media:
The above examples of government media manipulation and control, is not of course meant to be an inference that what we have in the UK in the way of government interference with the media is on the same scale and to cover similar political atrocities. But it merely serves to illustrate where media interference, manipulation, and control by any political organisation, let alone government; can take us.
UK Radio, TV and newspapers, in general are perceivably under some collusion with the government over the none reporting of major issues, and the deafening silence over the privatisation of the NHS, slashing of Welfare Benefits, and destruction of Employment Rights and victimisation of the disabled and unemployed. When they do report on these issues, the majority of the time is an exercise in promoting the coalition government's 'natsy party' line.
However, I argue that the 'coincidental' total silence on all TV news media or misreporting of events around issues such as NHS reforms, disability benefits, unemployment policy, attacks on health & safety and employment protection; can only be achieved by coercion and agreement between news agencies and government departments.
The fact is that most people get their news from TV and all of the TV news channels have basically conspired to keep the NHS, the Welfare Bill, Employment Rights and most domestic political issues out of their news schedules. Even those with superb journalists known for their integrity, are falling foul of perceived government control, and not reporting on these key issues.
The majority of people I speak to know little of what is going on with the NHS, and even less of anything else! Indeed, they have little or no knowledge of the opposition in both parliament and around the country. My neighbours are a classic example of the ignorance amongst people in this country as to what is going on.
The only question I have is to what extent has the media been complicate in this 'gagging' of accurate and unbiased news reporting? Have they gone willingly because most of the proprietors, editors and journalists support the coalition in its attacks on the weak, disenfranchised, disabled and elderly?
In my opinion, this country is populated in the main with people who are not interested in 'politics', take no interest in what's happening in the country until it affects them personally, and have lost all sense of priority and morality.
They are also extremely gullible when it comes to politics and have only a scant knowledge of the actual issues - unlike our European counterparts.
There is, I believe no other explanation for why the media which is the most sexist, reactionary, judgemental, arbitrary and victimising, in its news reporting and current affairs opinions; happens also to be the most popular by far!
Maybe I am burnt out after 40 years of campaigning and being part of the Trade union movement, but I remain totally dismayed at the lack of principle and the selfishness of the majority in this country.
Sadly, the thousands who attend demos, and the many on Twitter who discuss these issues and pass on information; are in the minority.
For all of these reasons, not least because we saw it all before in the 1980's with evil Thatcherism lasting 18 years, I do not share the view that the political destiny for the evil Tories in the next election; is one of defeat.
Harold Wilson once said: "A week is a long time in politics" He was totally correct.
But he didn’t reckon on the collective amnesia and complacency of the British people, which in my view, means that even a day is 'a long time in politics'
I hope with all my being that my conclusions are incorrect, and that I am simply an old, bitter and twisted trade unionist; whose capacity for accurate judgement has been lost in the memory of bitter battles for morality, justice, and humanity.
