The death of a civilised country!
In a civilised society, it is everyones individual duty to look after one another and defend those too weak to help themselves.
Seems to me that the UK can no longer be called civilised supporting as it does a Tory government that labels the disabled, the elderly, the young, the unemployed as all scroungers, whilst at the same time removing funding for such groups and ensuring the bankers and their friends can tax dodge and get richer on the back of the majority.
That said, there is nothing else expected from the establishment, but for the British people to sit back and do nothing about the situation is a damned disgrace.
It also drives the last nail into the coffin of what was once a civilised country!

Insane Country Part 2
There is no doubt that the looting and rioting that took place last week, has nothing to do with the death of a man in Tottenham at the hands of the police.
I do believe though, that it is symptomatic of a country with real problems, and these people rioting, whilst not representative of youth as a whole; do reflect the opinions and attitudes of a lot of young people who feel they are not listened to and are marginalised.
How many families sit as a group and eat together, discuss issues together? Too many parents leave their kids for hours in their bedrooms with their computers, mobile phones and know little of what they get up to. Many kids are literally bringing themselves up, and there is a well developed sub-culture that is dominated by media and pop imagery that, to be frank I do not feel is at all healthy. Kids, as a result have become addicted to FB, BBM, Twitter and SMS as confirmed in an OFCOM report this week.
As for parents, we have a society happy to slag off working mothers, sack pregnant women, attack maternity rights and payments. Add that to a low wage economy, and you have parents having to work all hours to make ends meet.
Sadly because of the technology, family bonding has been replaced with TVs and computers which have now become a prerequisite for every child, whilst parents don’t do anything to understand the technology they supply their kids with! Leaving them with uncontrolled access to the internet and social network sites which exposes them to a range of potentially harmful things such as porn. This is a damn awful lack of parental responsibility. What sort of society ends up with over 50% of kids between the age of 10 and 14 viewing porn on the internet?
Appalling!
Even the huge number of safety software out there to prevent access to such sites and offer protection when kids are on FB etc are not being used.
The problems and causes are multi-faceted, and whilst there is NO excuse for riots and looting, the kids of today are angry, have no respect for others, and expect everything for nothing because parents have totally acquiesced to their demands.
There is a big communications gap and we need to address this and listen to them.
I am not saying all youth are like this, but there are far more of them than you think, believe me.

Are Mr & Mrs Public THAT stupid?
So Health and Safety at Work legislation and the Human Rights Act are both to blame for the riots and thieving that went on last week?
So Cameron claimed this week, and no one raised an eyebrow at this stupid and criminally insane statement from a man who knows fuck all about real life and the working conditions of most of the UK workforce.
The only connection between health & safety and the riots is Cameron's political ideology and his aim to privatise everything, thereby creating a majority non unionised workforce, a low wage economy and one with no responsibility to the workers.
Sadly, Cameron will link anytihng with anything else to justify his dogma, even claim the earth is flat if it gets stupid Mr & Mrs Public to believe in what he is doing. Sadly just telling them the moon is made of cheese is enough right now!
So are Mr & Mrs Public THAT stupid?
Well probably yes they are!
Insane Country
The current mentality within some of the judiciary, and the majority of the general public explains why we used to have public executions in this great land of ours.
Revenge is what everyone wants and thinks that will stop riots and theft from ever happening again - what a naive and symplistic way of looking at things. Never try to understand unrest or prevent it happening again, just beat the little bastards and lock them up!
Great British answer to a British problem!
Here is the perfect example of a typically stupid answer to riots and theft:
Write a rediculous statement on Face Book that resulted in buggar all happening, and you get a life long criminal record and locked up for 4 years! A rapist get's less than that! This country has gone insane! Unbelievable and rediculous sentencing which will cost the tax payer even more!
The 'hang 'em & flog 'em brigade wont be happy, but what's next, lifetime exile to an uninhabeted iceberg off antarctica?
Bloody rediculous!
Personally, I don't believe that the risk of a prison sentence will outway the anger and desperation some people feel. If anything the fact that the only answer is for us to lock em up, instead of working out the causes in the first place, will simply play into the hands of those who feel they have no alternative than to riot and thieve. Many were opportunist, but the underlying problem is vast and spread across the UK.
The current Tory government will make things worse with thier cuts and dogma of privatising everything and growing a low wage economy as a result.

Hello Cruel World Part 2
Interesting how as Harold Wilson once said, "A week in politics is a long time." applies to life and not just politics.
My intitial blog was written prior to the riots in parts of England, and at that time, the Government hadn't dared to raise the spectre of it's wish to do something about social network sites, e.g. BBM, Twitter, Facebook; to name only a few.
Well now they have a perfect excuse to do precisely that, and no doubt the majority of the great unwashed will fall for it, accepting it is a price to pay in order to stop future riots, as if!
Reality is of course that there was rioting well before the invention of the mobile phone and all its subsequent ability to create nightmares for politicians and the state. Go back to early 1700s and you will find evidence of riots on the streets of Engalnd.
No, the truth of it is that Cameron and his Con-Dem(ned) government know that once the British people actually wake up (and by the way it will be too late) to the realities of their massive cuts programme which will transform the country into the United Kingdom Of America (UKA); there will indeed be massive protests and demonstrations on the streets of England.
Just as the main aim of the coalition is to de-unionise the UKs workforce, remove all employment and health & safety protection, and to privatise everything; so is their aim to stem the ability of people to organise and gather via the media of social networking sites.
Of course this is considered to be the rantings of mad men and those who are paranoid and full of conspiracy theories.
Fact is, just because you are paranoid, it doesn't mean they are not out to get you!
And Finally:
I lay claim to the phrase 'I Don't beleive it!' which I first used when the bus to school didn't turn up and then three came together! So, Victor Meldrew, where's my royaltyies?!
I don't deny I am a bitter and twisted moaning old git! But I've been around long enough to have the right to do so - and done my bit to try and change things!
Not an armchair socialist like so many, and certainly don't whinge whine and moan and not complain. In fact I'm rather good at it!

Nothing Like A Riot To Wake Up Society!
Nothing like a riot to wake up society!
So now Cameron is using the riots as an excuse to close down social networking (BBM in particular), we will all sit quietly by nodding in agreement without realising that this will be further excuse to curtail genuine public concerns and protests about the Tory policies which will privatise the UK, the NHS, create mass unemployment forcing people onto low wages, non-unionised workplaces, and abolish bit by bit employment rights.
Still the great British public will be nodding away and whingeing on about it being the only way to stop riots, as all groups opposing Government will be slandered as being full of anarchists and left wing looneys!
Oh to be British!!
Completely pissed off with the inability of people on TV and radio and in gutter press to discuss how to prevent this, but proud of those on Twitter who are not sitting idly by.
Watching the middle class male politicians discussing on the like of News Night and Channel 4 riot debates, it is clear that not only do middle class male politicians and self ellected 'opinion formers' not have a bloody clue what the majority of the kids in today's England feel; but that I must be totally wrong in my view that the problem is down to politics, the media, and society's values of 2011.

So I know get it - those rioting and looting are from outer space - suddenly descending from flying saucers and have fuck all to do with our wonderful caring and selfless society in which we all support one another!
Fact is you & me and everyone in this country is responsible for the state of things.
Total acquiescence, gutlessness and the 'I'm aright jack' attitude is well and truly alive and flourishing in the homes, workplaces, and streets of this great nation!!
